UAE (United Arab Emirates) is a west Asian country, located in the southeast peninsula sharing the borders with Oman and Saudi Arabia. On December 2, 1971, UAE became the federation of six Arab Emirates – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, and Fujairah. Later in 1972, the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah joined the federation. The capital of the UAE is Abu Dhabi.
#1 Petrol is cheaper than water:
The country has almost one-fifth of the world’s oil reserves which is estimated to be about 267 billion barrels. The country produces about 2.9 million barrels per day. The UAE reduced the consumption of oil by adopting nuclear energy to satisfy the rapidly growing need for electricity and oil. As a result, the country became the largest exporter of oil. So, in Dubai, petrol is generally cheaper than drinking water.
#2 Native people have outnumbered:
The migrants outnumber the local people of Emirates by a whopping 11:1 ratio. The migrants make up 91% of total population. Migrants mostly hail from the South Indian states. 20% of all Indian migrants reside in UAE. A migrant can apply for UAE citizenship only after residing in the country for at-least 30 years. The person should have never been convicted of a crime and should speak Arabic fluently.
#3 The world’s tallest skyscraper:
Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, rising to a height of 2,722 feet, is the world’s tallest building. Starting from 2004, it took 6 years to build the tallest structure in the world. It has set 17 records including, the world’s highest nightclub and world’s highest restaurant. The tower of Burj Khalifa is composed of 4,000 tonnes of structural steel. The central pinnacle pipe alone weighs 350 tonnes and is 200m tall.
#4 Gold-dispensing ATM:
UAE has an ATM that dispenses gold bars. Emirates Palace hotel in Abu Dhabi, which claims to be the most luxurious hotel in the United Arab Emirates, has installed an Automated teller machine (ATM) that dispenses gold bars. The machine offers about 320 items to choose, that may range from 10 grams to customized coins. The machine was created by a German businessman, Thomas Geissler. He said that the best place to launch his invention is UAE, because of its high demand for gold.
#5 World’s largest Automated Metro System:
Dubai has the world’s largest unmanned metro system. 87 trains are operated unmanned and cover over 75 km long network that spans the city. The trains are carbon neutral, and the temperature is maintained at a standard 20 degree Celsius (68 F). 80% of the water used to wash these trains are recycled. It holds the record for the longest unmanned metro network in the world.
